Queen's Speech

The latest Government programme announced in the Queen's Speech looks busy but uninspiring according to Mr Bruce

Responding to the Queens Speech today in the Houses of Parliament, Gordon MP, Malcolm Bruce said:

"The programme looks busy but uninspiring.

"The Government seems hell-bent on undermining our traditional freedoms and wasting money on ID cards without increasing security.

"Disengagement from Iraq must not be at expense of supporting the challenge of Afghanistan from where I have just returned.

"Reform of Parliament and strengthening of the United Kingdom will not be achieved until Labour is prepared to loosen central control.

"The test will be in genuine strengthening of committees and the role of backbench and opposition MPs."
