City MP calls on political groups to pull together for good of Aberdeen

8.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 13th May 2008

Following the announcement that Douglas Paterson, the Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council is to leave his post, Malcolm Bruce the MP for Gordon said:

"I have always had a perfectly good relationship with Douglas Paterson but he has clearly made his decision and I accept that.

"His resignation seems to me an effective acknowledgement that some of Aberdeen City Councils' problems lie with the directorate rather than with the political leadership.

"This marks a new turning point in which to put aside party politics. In some way or other all the party groups have some measure of responsibility but now is the time for the political parties to put aside their differences for the good of the Council and for the good of the citizens of Aberdeen."
